Tony
Palazzo's family have been making wine in Italy's Lombardia region since
the 16th century. To continue the tradition in Australia they
chose the Killara Park Estate situation in the Yarra Valley, one of
Australia's great wine producing regions.
The estate covers some 1,200 acres although only about 150 acres are currently producing grapes (more to come) the vines are planted on a silty clay loam with a high percentage of gravel running through it. Until 2002 the Pinot grapes were sold to Coldstream Hills, with the Palazzo family now looking to establilsh their own label. The Racers & Rascals label is produced from young vines and the name refers to the young men who used to race cars on the land in the 1930's.
