Leyda
is located on the Coastal Mountain Range, 14 kilometres from the shores of
the Pacific Ocean, 25 kilometres southwest from casablanca and 95
kilometres west of Santiago. Traditionally, Leyda has been an area
of natural pasture lands and basic crops such as wheat and barley.
This is very representative of the dry farming of the West Coast Mountain
Range.
In
1997, after evaluating the potential conditions of the area an important
investment was made to bring water from the Maipo River through an 8
kilometre pipeline. At the present time Viña Leyda has 80 hectarces
of grapes under cultivation in the Valley.
Due
to the maritime influence, the cool conditions of spring and summer make
it an extraordinary area for development of varieties such as Chardonnay,
Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
