Wines in the press 2026

A long overdue catch up on some of our wines which have received awards and Press Write ups over the last 12-months…

Wine Merchant Top-100 2026

  • Avondale Cyclus, Paarl – South Africa

“A really special wine that combines weight and freshness, richness and great acidity in a single succulent package,” the judges said. “Bright apple pie and honeysuckle flavours, and a long, long finish.”

  • Avondale La Luna, Paarl – South Africa

“So good to see a South African wine with a bit of age, which brings a really mellow character while still holding on to the fruit,” the judges said. “Aromas of cocoa powder and milk chocolate, and soft tannins, great length. Very smart and good value for the quality.”

  • Otero Reserva, Benavente – Spain

“Smells and tastes a little like an aged Bordeaux, with vanilla oak, but it’s still showing its youth with dark fruit and velvet tannins and a bit of peppered spiciness on the finish,” the judges said. “A wine with loads of character and value.”

  • Porto Poças White Colheita 2015 Port, Douro Valley – Portugal – Best Value Fortified Trophy

“A superb drink”, the judges said. “Nutty bruised apple flavours, and beautiful balance of fruit, acidity and sweetness, with a finish that goes on forever. Brilliantly made, it’s also astonishing value given the concentration and complexity.”

  • Maso Franch Bianco, Cantina Lavis, Trentino – Italy

“Deep colour and wonderful intensity: quite pithy, herbaceous, nutty and stone-fruity,” the judges said. “An excellent, complex palate with a luxurious mouth feel.”

  • Vouvray Ammonite, Domaine Alain Robert, Loire – France

“Creamy nose, citrus, ripe stone fruits and crème fraiche … this is a rich but very well balanced style,” the judges said. “The oak is well integrated, with vanilla hints on a palate of bruised apple and apple compote.”

  • El Picador Sauvignon Blanc, Central Valley – Chile – Best Value White Trophy

“Very attractive Sauvignon greenness – it smells like gazpacho,” the judges said. “A nice hint of bitterness adds to the freshness on the crisp lemony palate, and there’s a touch of creaminess, too. Just brilliant value.”

  • Producteurs Plaimont Grévière, Madiran - France

“Love the deep, dark flavours and the tannic grip – it’s the sort of wine you want when it’s cold and dark outside and you’ve got a big rich meaty stew on the go, preferably something with duck”

  • Amarone della Valpolicella doc Barriques, Zeni, Verona – Italy

“Big, rich, smoky chocolate almonds and a glorious, powerful texture,” the judges said. “Superb Amarone for cheese.”

  • Principe de Viana Crianza – Navarra, Spain – 95 Points

“Raspberry, strawberry and cranberry syrup notes with a lick of mint to brighten and add lift. Smooth, with lively acidity and a lovely, enduring, spicy finish.”
