Macon Azé 2023, Jules Richard, Cave de Buxy

Founded in 1931 by 98 small family grape growers and winemakers, the Caves de Buxy, based in the warm hinterlands of the Cote Chalonnaise in Southern Burgundy, has now grown to 120 family growers covering some 2,000 ha of vines spread across several appellations within both Maconnais and Chalonnaise. Buxy’s strive for quality is apparent from every level. The winemaker, Alan Pierre, visits every vineyard and his team oversee quality of grapes during the season, from Bud Break to ripening and vintaging. A quality committee oversee a tiered payment system, an incentive for the families to produce only the best grapes and make the best wine they can. In 2013 Buxy joined the Sustainable Winegrowers Development scheme which concentrates growing efforts on minimizing Carbon outputs, and managing vineyards and wine making in a controlled and totally sustainable way.

The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Buxy are wines that represent a rare opportunity to offer high quality varietal Burgundies at a sensible price and show ripe fruit, concentration, elegance and balance.
