Barbanera is an Italian wine estate in south Tuscany, close to the Umbria border. In 1938 Altero and Maria Franceschini started a small business in the wine industry. Italy was a fascist country in this period and they remember arduous journeys to Rome when communication and transport elsewhere was limited. Luigi, their son, learned as much as he could in this period and passed on his experience to his sons Marco and Paolo who are now directors of the company, inheriting it in 1978.
